Industry: Manufacturing (Construction Materials)
Engagement Type: Organizational Development & Effectiveness Consulting
Focus Areas: As-Is Process Mapping, Job Analysis, Change Readiness, Organizational Design
Challenge:
A mid-sized manufacturer with operations in the U.S. and Canada was preparing to transition from a heavily customized ERP system to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Leadership recognized the need to align their structure, processes, and workforce readiness to support this digital transformation, but they faced siloed operations, undocumented processes, and resistance from tenured staff.
Solution:
Lead a comprehensive Organizational Effectiveness (OE) engagement. This included:
- Documenting more than 150 as-is processes through interviews, observations, and artifact review across departments (Sales, Engineering, Finance, HR, IT, Operations)
- Conducting job analyses for incumbent roles to clarify responsibilities, performance standards, and knowledge transfer needs
- Observing workflows and cultural behaviors to assess organizational dynamics
- Reviewing onboarding, training, and SOPs to identify gaps and inconsistencies
- Evaluating the current org structure and recommending realignment for improved span of control and cross-functional collaboration
- Preparing the organization for change by developing a roadmap for a centralized T&D function using the existing LMS
- Creating and delivering weekly executive summaries to apprise stakeholders of the project’s progress with complete transparency and ethics
- Planning readiness surveys and psychological safety assessments to support ERP adoption
Results:
The engagement resulted in a 50-page executive report outlining systemic inefficiencies, cultural challenges, and strategic recommendations for organizational realignment. Deliverables included job profiles, training priorities, and OD interventions to increase efficiency, collaboration, and readiness for digital transformation. This groundwork positioned the company to proceed confidently toward its ERP implementation with clarity, structure, and momentum.
